The adventure begins…

I have to admit, I feel a little funny writing in here about a vacation I’m heading off on. I’ve never done that before! ๐Ÿ™‚ Maybe it’s a good sign. Certainly a good trend. I will have to have this funny feeling more often!
I’ve been in Connecticut the past few days, spending time with Alison’s family before we head off to Greece tomorrow. Oh, sorry – Alison, who has previously only been referred to in this blog as “my friend” – I’ve been a little cautious about referring to her by name since she’s also in the game industry and does developer relations as well. But she says it’s okay as long as I refer to her as something like “Alison the Great”, “Psycho Alison”, or “Alison the Homeless Person who Lives out of Suitcases because she’s Always Visiting Developers”. So now we’ve got that sorted. We’re heading off on our around-the-world adventure Monday evening.
So anyway, Krazy Alison and I spent a bunch of time today trying to pare down our luggage. Upon learning that a common limit for baggage on international travel is 20kg total, we both panicked a bit and set about getting rid of some of our excess weight. Fortunately, I’m a guy, so for me my heaviest items were books and electronics. (Wifi router, okay, some things are not optional when staying in hotels, so the books had to go.) Alison had the more difficult challenge, with shoes and makeup weighing in rather heavily. I think we’ve both sorted it out; we’ll see if we pass the final test when we check in our bags tomorrow.
I’m really looking forward to Athens – even though we’re there for just one day as a stop on the way to Cairo, it’s enough time to wander around and see the Acropolis, check out a lot of ruins, have some ouzo… it should be great! There are a zillion places in Europe that I want to see and haven’t been, Greece has definitely been on my list for a long time. Next… Barcelona? Mmmmm that would be fun. ๐Ÿ™‚
Anyway… will try to blog on the road. Assuming that wifi router works! ๐Ÿ™‚
Happy holidays to all of you!
