Game Technology Association meeting

Tuesday I attended the San Francisco Game Technology Association meeting, another event put on by the folks at The Game Initiative.
I didn’t know quite what to expect; it looked like it was basically going to be twenty folks from game technology companies sitting around a big table and chatting, moderated by Jessica Tams of Trymedia. It turned out to be quite useful, and I’m really happy that I went. We essentially each took turns presenting info about our companies and business models, current plans, etc; then opened the floor for comments from those present, with insightful questions interjected by Jessica. Lots of great conversation and good business connections resulted. I also re-met some old friends and made some really good new contacts.
If you see this event pop up near your home town, and you work on game technology, definitely check it out!

I was asked to attend and present, but it overlapped with a meeting I couldn’t afford to miss. Too bad.
So, what good comes from talking about your plans to competitors (whom I’m assuming were there)?

Our competitors weren’t there. 🙂 The conversation was kept at a fairly high level, so, for example, even though Macrovision and Trymedia were both there, it wasn’t as if things that were secret were shared in this forum. But it would have been cool if Alias was there to fight with Autodesk, or Intel with AMD. Nvidia and ATI were both there, but they basically just agreed with each other. 🙂
