Trillian Pro software

I’m loving Trillian Pro. I noticed while I was on the road in Tokyo that my laptop took forever to boot, and was swapping to disk all the time. It would always pause when loading up ICQ and Yahoo Messenger, and Yahoo in particular would sometimes swell to take up 40 megabytes of memory. So I’ve banned all those little IM programs from my laptop by purchasing Trillian Pro, and so far I’m quite happy. I replaced Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, and Exodus (Jabber) with one program. Trillian right now is taking up 7 megabytes of memory, whereas before those four programs would sometimes take up over 70. So far I’m quite pleased with Trillian. It even lets me do secure (SSL) Jabber… good-bye Exodus!
Joe Bob says check it out.

DSL back up!

Yay, I have my new DSL line running!
I got back from the Austin Game Conference last night, and immediately strode to the computer to test out the connection. I’m getting 5 Mbps down, 500K up. Yowsers! Sonic.net r00lz!
I’ll write more about Austin GC later. It was great to meet all the folks I saw there; thanks for showing me a good time!

crash2

drat! Satori’s web server crashed again. Not the whole machine this time, which is some good news, I suppose. I’ve narrowed it down to the nightly log file rotation, which I tweaked a few weeks ago. Will take a look at that soon. Sorry for the random crashiness of the site.
I’ve been moving boxes between my old place and new place and it’s making it tougher to maintain the site – I suspect that I’ll have to roll a bunch of the files over to my ISP (Speakeasy) for a few weeks as I get the new DSL line up and running. Hopefully that won’t take TOO long.
Speaking of crashes, I’ve been playing with an early burn of Burnout3… oh my god, what a fun game. :-)

crash crash crashity crash

This server has been crashing again lately. Randomly, it seems. Playing with it this morning, it seems like it may be a heat issue, like the problems it’s had previously. I’ve pulled out a 256MB stick, and that seems to have significantly reduced the amount of heat it’s generating. Hopefully it won’t crash again today!
I’ll type more later. But for now, let me just register how annoying I find it when I’ve been awake long enough to hear NPR’s “Morning Edition” wrap around and begin replaying things I’ve already heard, at 7:30am. (That means I woke up at 5:30… don’t ask me why!)
Happy Wednesday…
