PS3 Launch Announcement

I knew the PS3 delay announcement was coming, but I was still surprised how sad I felt to hear it. I’ve launched a lot of platforms; I didn’t think it would affect me much. But it felt like we were giving in… had failed somehow.
The good news for me is that while we’ve pushed back the Japanese launch, we’ve effectively pulled forward the European launch. No one had thought the PS3 would see Europe before 2007.
Given the status of the hardware I think we’ll be in great shape for the numbers talked about for launch. A global launch is certainly a challenge though, as Microsoft courageously demonstrated last Christmas.
Next up, Phil Harrison’s keynote at GDC. Ready, deep breath, go!
Note to self: Having the Google Desktop Sidebar filled with news about launch delays and my company’s share price dropping really sucks!

Meh. It’s only work. Anyway, the games really are nowhere where they’ll need to be. It’s actually the right decision in this case. Do you remember when Saturn launched way too early, thus effectively screwing the console?
