San Francicso Pride
This weekend was Pride Weekend around the world, and as you might expect it was absolutely huuuuuuge here in San Francisco. A good friend lives in the Castro district here, the area of the city which is where you find more gay men and lesbian women than… other areas of the city.
Okay, that sounded really dorky to say. I’m mad that to be politically correct I’m trying to dance around the right way to say that. Whatever. 🙂 Annnyway, here in SF, the gay pride parade is called the “San Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Celebration”. But I’m going to call it Pride for short.
Each year I hear about the pink triangle being erected on the hills just above the Castro… this year I found it!
Okay, yeah, so it was hard to miss. 🙂 Pretty cool!
Last night it was a HUGE party just outside the door here in the Castro. This is early in the evening before the party really got started. It went 3pm to 3am!
Then this morning, outside my house, was the Pride parade! So I was basically surrounded by Pride this weekend. Which was awesome. I love my city!
It was pretty amazing this weekend walking around, taking the MUNI (subway), and being completely surrounded by gays and lesbians. Frankly I felt a little odd being straight. But hey, I figure turnabout is fair play, hey?
I helped with the erecting (?) of the Giant Pink Triangle on Twin Peaks this year and wow, it was a great experience. It was fantastic to do something civic-minded, early in the morning, and with a group of people that were interested in creating something meaningful.
Various politicos and celebrities showed up to give some truly heart-warming speeches about tolerance and the difficulties the gay community has gotten through up to this point.
I would highly recommend doing this to everyone next year! It was well-run and a great way to meet good-hearted folk.

I’ve got an idea – why don’t we make a national atheist day and erect a giant um, um, um, oh shit I dunno.
Okay, maybe for Earth Day we can put a big globe or something. But it might roll down the hill.
