News of the day

What’s another 4.1 billion dollars for Iraq? I mean heck, we’ve already spent what – 200 billion? 4.1 billion is just a little drop of oil in the bucket. We can forgive Iraq’s debt with us. It’s not like that administration is in power any more anyway!
Did you hear that Zell Miller is going to become a commentator for Fox News Channel after his Senate term is up? Does that really surprise anyone? Remember Zell? He’s the Democrat who did his best Emperor Palpatine impression at the Republican National Convention. Then he proceeded to challenge Chris Matthews to a duel for questioning what he had done.
Lastly, what the hell is going on in Ohio? I’m just paraphrasing Keith Olbermann from MSNBC here, but the election craziness continues there. In case you haven’t been following the madness, visit Lisa Rein’s site. The more people dig into the Ohio elections, the more of a mess they uncover. (I suppose the same could be said of the Washington state governor’s race.) Of course, Kenneth Blackwell, Ohio’s Secretary of State (in charge of certifying the election results), was also the co-chair of the committee to re-elect Bush in Ohio. Conflict of interest? Perhaps! In any case, the Green Party and Libertarian Party have banded together to force a hand recount in Ohio, so at least we’ll see something happen there. Unfortunately, with all the paper-trail-less voting machines, it’s unlikely we’ll really get a full story, whatever that story is. Sigh. Representative Conyers from the U.S. House of Representatives has called for an investigation into the Ohio mess. See his letter to Blackwell here. It’s just sad that we weren’t able to get the voting machines all straightened out in four years. How hard is it to port over ATM technology?
